Italian for Fun! is a group of tutors who love the Italian language and love to build the Italian
community in Tennessee. Classes meet at our offices at 810 Broadway, in the basement level
on nights and weekends. The classes have a relaxed and casual atmosphere. We do this part
time and most students find us by word of mouth. This means that someone enjoyed the class
enough to tell their friends. We hear a lot from our students that this was the perfect
preparation for their travel to Italy.

Patti Franklin Nelson
Patti has been speaking and singing professionally in Italian since the age of 19. Born in an Italian
neighborhood of upstate New York, it was destiny for Patti to be connected with Italy. She studied in
Europe and then served with a Christian organization for ten years, both in Italy and India. She then lived
and worked in the music business for another ten years while living in Torino, Northern Italy. Patti now
lives with her husband, Gary, in Nashville. She travels back to Italy each year to bring music and
inspiration! She started Italian for Fun! to spread the beauty of Italian language and culture in Tennessee.
Originally from New York City, Paulette Licitra is now a chef and writer in Nasvhille. Her Italian-American
background connects her to Ragusa & Palermo in Sicily and Campania, Italy. She completed her
professional culinary studies at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in NY, and has traveled
extensively throughout Italy for culinary research – studying with home cooks in Emilia Romagna, Lazio,
Liguria, the Veneto, and Campania. She has worked in Mario Batali’s restaurant Lupa, she was a chef at
Micol Negrin’s Rustico Cooking Studio in NY, and catered via her company Chez Paulette to corporate
organizations and for special events. Paulette is also the publisher/editor of the food journal Alimentum:
The Literature of Food. She was food editor for the webzine Urban Desires, and food columnist for
Viviana is a native of the small town of Azzano Decimo, (about 45 minutes from Venice). She moved to the
United States in 2003 to experience the “American Life” and since then Nashville has become her home.
She graduated in May 2009 with a BBA in Business Administration and a concentration in Consumer
Marketing from Tennessee State University with the second highest GPA in the College Of Business. She
took a position in 2009 with a wine distributor in town, 100% Italiano and currently covers the role of Sales
and Marketing Manager. Her husband, Steve Porter, is also a student of Italian for Fun!
Catherine (Caterina) Vinci Carminati
Catherine is a first generation Italo-American. Her parents were born in Marsala, Sicily. Catherine was
born and raised in southern California but moved to Italy after her first year of college. She studied Italian
language and culture at the Universita’ per Stranieri di Perugia, lived in the small town of Acqui Terme in
northern Italy for nine months, then settled in Firenze (Florence) for about seven years. She married in
Firenze and had two children there. Catherine currently resides in Franklin, TN as of 17 years, and is a
student at the University of Phoenix, Nashville. She plans to complete her bachelor’s degree in Global
Business Management this year.
